Biobank, Company & Request Directories

At the heart of the Biosample Hub platform are the directories: the biobank directory (or locator), the company directory, and the request directory, which features the sample requests submitted by company members.

Platform Components

The platform includes three main directories: the biobank directory (or locator), the company directory and the requests directory.

Biobank Directory or Locator

The biobank directory features searchable profiles for all biobank members. These profiles include information on the diseases well-represented in each biobank, as well as details about sample types, formats, clinical information, additional services, and permitted uses of samples. Each profile also has a messaging window, allowing direct contact with the biobank.

Company Directory

The company directory contains profiles providing general information about each company member. Like the biobank directory, it includes a messaging window, enabling direct contact with biobank members. Creating a company profile is optional.

Requests Directory

The requests directory showcases sample requests submitted on the platform. Each request details the disease type, sample type, storage format, inclusion criteria, and more. A messaging window on each request allows viewers to contact the requester directly. Requests are displayed for a set period but can be renewed as needed.

Other Resources

The resources section offers a wide range of relevant information, including biobank tariffs, analysis of requests received, regulations, additional biobank directories, and webinar recordings.

Management

The Biosample Hub team manages the platform, which operates on a not-for-profit basis.

How Companies Use The Platform

All companies can submit requests and view the requests directory. Companies that pay a membership subscription (self-service or full service) can view and use the biobank directory.

Use of the biobank directory

Company representatives can search the biobank directory to find biobanks with the disease and sample types they need. Once they identify a suitable biobank, they can use the messaging window on each profile to make contact.

Submitting a sample request

Company representatives can submit sample requests on the platform. These requests automatically appear in the requests directory, visible to biobank representatives. The admin team sends new requests to relevant biobanks promptly, and a summary of all new requests is included in the monthly newsletter sent to all members.

Concierge service

For companies subscribed to the full service option, expert support is available at any stage. This support may include off-platform searches when necessary.

How Biobanks Use The Platform

All biobanks members can view the biobank directory and update their entries. They can also view the requests directory and contact the requesters.

Finding relevant requests

Biobank representatives can regularly review the requests directory to find relevant requests. However, this step may not be essential because the admin team emails all new requests to relevant biobanks. Additionally, a monthly summary of new requests is shared with the entire membership.

Updating the biobank directory

It is crucial for biobank representatives to keep their biobank directory profiles complete and up-to-date. Representatives can update their profiles directly on the platform whenever needed.
